Are doula's used for home birth only?

Absolutely not!

Some of my clients do opt for the home birth option.

But I am well adapted to supporting a birthing mother in a hospital, MLU or home environment.

I feel more confident having my baby in hospital, will a doula steer me towards a home birth?

Not at all, my role is to support you, and ensure you feel informed to birth your baby wherever  YOU feel is right for YOU. I will support your choice 100%.

I am planning a caesarean birth...can I still have a doula?

Absolutely. Whether your baby is born vaginally or via caesarean section, your birth preferences are my primary concern, and I will help to support you through the caesarean process with a calming, reassuring presence.

What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?

Whilst both support the childbirth experience, as a doula I am on hand to support and nurture the mother emotionally, mentally, practically and physically to birth their baby. Midwives are medically trained to focus on delivering the baby.

Will I have a more positive birth experience if I have a doula?

Research suggests that birthing alongside a doula does have a positive effect.  Statistically there is evidence to suggest that having a doula reduces emergency caesarean rates, shortens labour, reduces the need for pain relief, and lowers the risk of needing an instrumental birth.

Can I have a birth partner and a doula?

Yes.

As  a doula, my role is to  support and work alongside birth partner(s) and healthcare providers.

I'm worried my partner may feel pushed out

Fear not.  My role is to support both of you.

Having a partner to care for you, whilst feeling supported themselves is very reassuring and helps the birthing mother to receive the best possible care.

When is the best time to book a doula?

As soon as you have made your decision to move forward with a doula supported birth. That way your chosen doula can make sure your due date doesn’t clash with another client.

If I book early in my pregnancy, when does my support start?

Immediately.

I will be available to support you via phone, WhatsApp or voice note as soon as you have become my client.

With my full package I will aim to visit you antenatally around 28 weeks and 34 weeks, with frequent updates on your pregnancy in-between, and debriefs when you engage with your midwife.

How do I pay?

My birth package is invoiced in 2 payments. One immediately after booking in the form of a deposit to hold your due date slot, the second is invoiced at 37 weeks in line with the start of my ‘on call’ period for your birth.  Overnight support is invoiced immediately after booking, whilst ad-hoc care is invoiced after the completed hours.  For more information, please click here.
